Revelation • Preparation
Revelation describes a global system that will make buying and selling conditional on compliance. The technology for this system already exists. The time to understand it — and prepare for it — is now.

Note: The image above is illustrative of a concept, not a prediction of the mark's specific form. As this article explains, the mark may take many forms. What scripture makes clear is that it will be publicly visible and universally recognized — by those who take it and those who refuse it alike.
Most conversations about the Mark of the Beast go in one of two directions. Either people treat it as a distant future curiosity with no practical relevance to their lives today, or they spiral into speculation about microchips, barcodes, and vaccines, treating every new technology as a candidate for the dreaded 666. Neither approach is particularly helpful, and neither is particularly scriptural.
What John described in Revelation 13 is not a mystery waiting to be decoded by conspiracy theorists. It is a clear, specific economic control system — one whose infrastructure is already being built around us — and the time to understand it honestly is now, while there is still time to prepare.
I wrote previously about how the pre-tribulation rapture doctrine has left millions of Christians unprepared for what is coming. The mark of the beast is the specific threat that makes that lack of preparation so dangerous. These two subjects are inseparable.
Let us start with the text itself rather than with anyone's theory about it.
"And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name." (Revelation 13:16–17)
The purpose of the mark is stated plainly: economic control. Without it, you cannot participate in commerce. You cannot buy. You cannot sell. You are cut off entirely from the economic system. This is not a spiritual metaphor. It is a literal description of how the beast system enforces compliance.
Notice also something that often gets overlooked: the mark is received in the right hand or the forehead. These locations are not arbitrary. Throughout scripture, the hand represents action and labor — what you do and whom you serve. The forehead represents thought and allegiance — what you believe and where your loyalty lies. The mark is therefore a declaration in two dimensions. It announces both what you think and what you are willing to do in service of the system that demands it.
One of the most important things to understand about the mark is that it will not be secret or invisible. This is not a silent chip implanted without your knowledge. This is not something that happens to you accidentally. The mark will be publicly visible and universally recognized — by those who take it and by those who refuse it.
Think about what that means practically. In the world Revelation describes, you will be able to look at another person and know where they stand. The mark will function as a social and economic passport, worn openly. Those who bear it will have access. Those who do not will be immediately identifiable as outside the system.
The mark may take many forms depending on the technology available when it is implemented. What scripture guarantees is not its specific appearance but its specific function: a visible, public declaration of allegiance to the beast system that grants economic access to those who accept it and economic exclusion to those who refuse.
This is actually an important comfort to those who fear accidentally receiving the mark. You will not wake up one day and discover it has been applied to you without your knowledge or consent. It represents a conscious choice made with full awareness of what it means. The mark is an anti-baptism: a public, physical declaration of a spiritual decision to serve the beast's system rather than God's kingdom.
No subject in all of Revelation has generated more fascination, fear, and wild speculation than the number 666. Let us approach it with the wisdom John actually invites us to apply.
"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." (Revelation 13:18)
First, 666 is an identification tool, not a cursed symbol. The ancient practice of gematria assigned numerical values to letters, so names could be calculated as numbers. John is telling us that this number will identify a specific individual — almost certainly the Antichrist himself. When he rises to power, those who understand gematria will be able to calculate that his name equals 666. The number is a marker, not a talisman. A receipt totaling $6.66 carries no spiritual significance whatsoever. Random appearances of the number in daily life mean nothing.
Second, the number carries deep symbolic meaning. In Hebrew numerology, seven represents perfection and divine completion. God created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh. Six represents man — created on the sixth day, always falling one short of divine perfection. The number 666 is three sixes: man, man, man. It is the number of human systems built without God. The beast system is humanity's attempt to create a perfect world order through its own wisdom and power. It will always be 666 because human effort without God never achieves the perfection of seven. The system promises paradise and delivers a counterfeit that is eternally one short.
I explore this individual's identity and the full beast system in much greater detail in the article addressing whether Donald Trump is the Antichrist — and why that accusation, while wrong, matters deeply for our ability to recognize who the real Antichrist will be.
We do not need to speculate about whether a global economic control system is technically feasible. It already is, and the pieces are being assembled right now.
Digital currency systems can track every transaction to the penny. Unlike physical cash, digital currency leaves a permanent, unalterable record and can be controlled remotely. Accounts can be frozen, funds seized, or purchasing restrictions programmed in with a keystroke. Central bank digital currencies — already in advanced development in dozens of countries — would give governments direct visibility into and control over every financial transaction made by every citizen.
Social credit systems already operational in several countries assign compliance scores to citizens and restrict access to transportation, banking, housing, and employment based on those scores. Biometric identification systems track movements, purchases, and associations. Facial recognition cameras monitor public spaces. Artificial intelligence monitors online activity and flags dissent.
None of these technologies is inherently evil. Technology is neutral. But the trend is unmistakable: every advance is being leveraged toward greater centralized control. All that will be needed to implement the full beast system is a crisis severe enough to justify connecting all of these systems at once. And as recent years have shown, such crises can appear suddenly.
The mark of the beast will not arrive with a warning label. It will be presented as necessary for security, efficient for commerce, and essential for participation in modern society. It will be marketed as progress. By the time most people realize what they have accepted, the choice will already have been made.
Some people reason that they will simply refuse the mark when the time comes. They imagine they will see the danger clearly and make the right choice in the moment. This is dangerously naive, and scripture addresses it directly.
By the time the mark is being actively enforced, the economic pressure will be overwhelming. The entire commercial system will require it. Your employer will require it. The grocery store will require it. The bank will require it. If you have not built any independence from that system before that moment arrives, you will be standing in line with hungry children beside you trying to make a decision you should have settled years earlier.
The parable of the ten virgins speaks directly to this. Five wise virgins had oil in their lamps when the bridegroom came. Five foolish virgins did not. When the foolish virgins tried to borrow oil at the last moment, they were told it was too late. Oil cannot be borrowed. Preparation cannot be transferred. Each person must build their own reserves — spiritual and temporal — in advance.
Noah did not start building the ark when the rain began. Joseph did not start storing grain when the famine arrived. The wise do not prepare after the crisis. They prepare before it, precisely because they have taken God's warnings seriously.
Preparation for the beast system operates on two levels: temporal and spiritual. Both are essential. Neither alone is sufficient.
Reduce your dependence on the beast system now, while you still have the freedom to do so. Store food, water, and basic necessities. Eliminate debt. Learn skills that produce real value independent of digital systems — growing food, basic medical knowledge, practical trades. Every step toward self-sufficiency is a step away from the mark's power over you. A person who can feed their family without participating in the beast's system can say no. A person who cannot is already compromised before the moment of decision arrives.
One more area worth considering, and I recognize both of these suggestions will raise eyebrows. First, reduce your dependence on Wi-Fi. If circumstances allow, remove it from your home entirely. Every device connected to your network is a point of visibility into your habits, purchases, and movements — and the more dependent we become on that invisible infrastructure, the more leverage it hands to whoever controls it. Second, consider owning an older vehicle, one without cellular connectivity and complex networked electronics. This is not speculation: security researchers have already demonstrated the ability to remotely disable modern connected vehicles, and several governments have mandated remote shutdown capability as a standard feature in new cars. The infrastructure for remotely killing your vehicle with a keystroke already exists. Comfort and convenience are genuine blessings, but not when they become chains. Reducing dependence on systems that can be switched off from the other side of the world is simply wisdom, applied one decision at a time.
Make your covenants with God now. Strengthen your testimony through daily scripture study and prayer. Build the kind of spiritual foundation that does not shift when external pressure is applied. When the moment of decision comes, you will not rise above the level of your spiritual preparation any more than a runner in a race rises above their training. The time to build that foundation is now, not then.
Make peace with the cost in advance. Following God during that period may require surrendering things the world values deeply — employment, housing, social standing, physical comfort. Settling that question now, in a moment of clarity and peace, is far better than trying to settle it under overwhelming pressure.
Understanding the prophetic framework within which the mark appears is also part of spiritual preparation. Scripture identifies specific servants God raises up in the last days to establish the conditions where His people can refuse the mark without being destroyed by that refusal. The Political Kingdom of God and the Law of Consecration are designed precisely to create an economic system entirely separate from Babylon — one where God's people can live, trade, and thrive completely outside the beast's control. That is not an accident. It is the plan.
It is important to be clear about where we are in this sequence. The infrastructure for the mark is being assembled. The systems are being connected. But the Antichrist who will enforce the full mark system has not yet risen to power. When he does, his arrival will be accompanied by signs that scripture describes in specific terms — signs that have not yet occurred.
This means we are in a window of time that will not remain open indefinitely. A window for preparation. A window for making covenants. A window for building the spiritual and temporal reserves that will matter enormously when the window closes.
The question of who that Antichrist will be, and what role the Davidic servant prophesied in Isaiah plays in opposing his rise, is central to understanding the full prophetic picture. These are not isolated prophecies. They are part of a single, coherent narrative that scripture lays out in remarkable detail for those willing to study it carefully.
The mark of the beast is one piece of a much larger prophetic framework that is beginning to unfold in our day. My book, The First Horseman: God's Chosen Servant, examines the full scope of what the scriptures reveal about the last days, the beast system, the Antichrist, the role of God's servants in opposing that system, and what every believer needs to understand and do right now.
